If the DeFi tools we've previously explored haven't lived up to your expectations, this week we invite you to discover Artemis, a platform dedicated to on-chain data analysis. Artemis offers access to "institutional-level data for digital assets", providing a rich variety of information and indicators on activities within various blockchains. Whether you're a trader, investor or analyst, Artemis is designed for those in the DeFi ecosystem who prefer to base their decisions on hard data rather than chance.
The inspiration to create Artemis took root during a conversation between its creators and representatives of Modular Capital, an investor specializing in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. They had identified a lack of solutions for easily extracting data from blockchains, quickly comparing it, and integrating it into spreadsheets such as Excel or Google Sheets without the need for programming.
This gap forced investors to juggle between different sites or hire specialized teams to accomplish these tasks. Jon Ma, CEO and co-founder of Artemis and an alumnus of Harvard Business School, took the initiative to create a tool accessible to professionals and amateurs alike, facilitating these operations. Artemis was born in 2022.
Following funding from Pear VC, the amount of which remains undisclosed, the New York-based company rapidly developed its application with a team of 8 people. Artemis aspires to be a neutral platform vis-à-vis the various blockchains, offering reliable, transparent and verifiable information.
The platform offers three main services.
1. Artemis Terminal
Artemis Terminal is a platform designed to explore and analyze data from the main blockchains on the market, enabling them to be compared or their performance to be assessed using a range of indicators. It offers developer activity monitoring, highlights the most popular dApps and smart contracts, and features numerous customizable and intuitive graphs, similar to those available on Dune, Glassnode or Token Terminal.
Artemis Terminal stands out for its ability to present essential information in a clear, organized way, avoiding the information overload that can characterize some of its competitors. The platform makes data easy to read and understand, enabling rapid detection of trends and observation of behavior.
2. Artemis Sheets
Artemis Sheets is an extension you can install on your PC to import blockchain data directly into Google Sheets or Excel. Data is updated live on your spreadsheets and can be extracted from Artemis Terminal, as well as CoinGecko, Dune or Token Terminal. Free templates are also available to help beginners get started easily.
3. Artemis Reviews
The platform offers a weekly summary called "Crypto Fundamentals", covering recent events in the cryptocurrency field. It also provides detailed analyses of technical or topical themes (political, economic, etc.) that may influence the ecosystem.
On the platform's home page (1), you'll find a summary of our on-chain activity, covering the main blockchains on the market.
You'll discover the total value of the ecosystem (2), the volume of active addresses (3) and the number of transactions (4) carried out over the last 24 hours.
A chart comparing the returns of Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, the Nasdaq and the SP500 over different time intervals (5) should persuade many that, despite the risks, investing in cryptocurrencies has the potential to be profitable (5).
Further on, the most popular categories (6), decentralized applications (dApps) (7) and smart contracts (8) are presented. Finally, some key indicators for market analysis are outlined (9).
This tab (1) shows details of the information provided on the home page and some other key data. You can select the time scale you are interested in at the top right (2).
If you prefer tables to graphs, just scroll down the page. Charts can be more convenient for categorizing data, and you can apply different filters depending on your search.
On this page (1), Artemis presents metrics relating to four key areas of decentralized finance (DeFi) (2): futures trading platforms, decentralized exchanges, lending and borrowing protocols, and liquid staking.
Here you can display the data on different time scales (3) and find them in tabular form below the chart.
Here (1) you'll find information on the four most important stablecoins on the market: USDT, USDC, DAI and BUSD (due to be replaced by TUSD).
You can find out the number of tokens available per blockchain, exchange volumes and the number of active addresses (2) per stablecoin and/or blockchain (3).
This tab (1) offers various metrics concerning dApps. You can sort them by blockchain (2) and apply filters to refine your search.
As the name suggests, this tab (1) focuses on developer activity in different ecosystems.
The upper charts show the volume of commits (the smallest measure of a developer's contribution) made during the week, and the number of developers considered active, a status attributed to those who have submitted at least one commit during the said period. The table below provides a detailed summary by blockchain.
By selecting the "Contract deployments" option (2), you can access detailed data on the number of contracts recently deployed per blockchain.
Artemis uses an in-house algorithm to define and group applications by category. It tracks over 5,800 applications and 7,000 smart contracts, classified into 111 categories.
The activity monitor (1) lets you segment your searches to better understand user behavior.
Once again, data is presented in graphical and tabular form, working together. You can refine your searches using the drop-down menus (2), or by clicking on any of the table items.
If all the above isn't enough for you, these tabs (1) allow you to create your own charts for insertion into customized dashboards.
You need to create a (free) account on the platform to access these features.
To generate a chart, start by accessing "Chart Builder" (1). Then select "Create New" (2). Name your chart and then select the relevant data from the library (3). After saving, simply insert your chart into a dashboard via the "Dashboard" tab (1).
Artemis, a blockchain-based analysis tool, is aimed at all audiences, and requires no special skills for its use or understanding of the data on display. This platform is ideal for identifying trends, examining the market and forecasting changes in the field. The condensed information provided is ideal for those looking for ease of use, while the adjustable graphs will satisfy users wishing to delve deeper into their analyses.
